The Zeeland Pioneering Prize

An independent panel of judges, including the Rabobank, Rijkse accountants and advisors and the Province of Zeeland, selected civil engineering firm Walhout Civil as the winner of the Zeeland Pioneering Prize 2017. The judge reasoned: “Having a successful engineering firm before the age of thirtieth and working on hydraulic and geotechnical projects all over the world is already exceptional. However, if you are asked by the Dutch government to coordinate and control the emergency aid and reconstruction of ports, airports and roads of Saint Martin, Saba and Saint Eustatius, something special is going on. Walhout Civil decisive actions ensured that logistical supplies and evacuations could be carried out quickly.”

Walhout Civil has provided emergency aid to Saint Martin , Saba and Saint Eustatius in recent months after hurricane Irma and Maria. Korné Walhout worked in the crisis management team to reduce the chaos and restore the harbors and coastal management structures. The work was carried out in collaboration with the Dutch Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, Ministry of Defence, Rijkswaterstaat, various offshore contractors and local authorities.
